ABOUT

Do you have an adult child with special needs that’s finished high school or isn’t ready to go to University or get a job?

WE CAN HELP!

Our programming includes real-world literacy, real-world math, social skills, life skills, local geography/TTC usage and vocational training.

Co-op working programs are a great way to introduce your son or daughter to responsibility, critical thinking and utilize the social skills they'll learn with us. Our past students have worked with The Salvation Army, North York Food Bank and many other institutions.

At our facility they will learn the skills they need to clean, cook, balance their bank account, access the TTC system and begin to become the self-sufficient adults they deserve to be. Our arts and therapeutic activities programs will help them release and share their anxieties in an empathetic format and help them forge new friendships while they learn.

We look forward to helping your young adult reach their goals. Our programs are offered in part-time and full time, to better meet your needs. Contact us for an interview. Applications are available under the 'PARENTS' tab.

Why We Founded MA'AVAR

After working for over 20 years teaching and supporting students with learning disabilities, it became very apparent that there is a lack of access, financial support and services for young adults after high school. Most of my former students ended up at home with their parents, with no other support systems. A recent article from The Star from 2014, highlighted their overcrowded special needs system that was underfunded, forcing them to cut quality and forcing them to send students home for several days at a time because they weren’t able to accommodate them. We believe that an expansion of services is necessary to enhance the lives of young adults in Toronto and provide them with the skills necessary to survive in the real world.

This program aimed at post-high school adults, will help them overcome their social, academic and behavioral issues and help them integrate into society and reach their individual goals.
